Ariana Grande's brother Frankie marked 16 months of sobriety in a poignant Instagram post on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old American dancer turned to alcohol and prescription drugs following the Manchester attack in May last year.

Sharing a clip to his social media page on top of an Icelandic volcano, he looked back on his battle with substance abuse and his journey to recovery.

He wrote: 'Today I celebrate 16 months sober... and it is very fitting that I am standing atop a volcano staring at a rainbow as I take this photo, because that has been my journey into recovery over the past 16 months.

'I was an erupting volcano in my disease, spreading lava, ash & destruction all around me... but since I have stopped drinking & using my lava has cooled, my foundation has solidified, life has returned to me & now I can see rainbows again.

'I’m so grateful for these 16 months, I’m so grateful for all of your support, I’m so grateful for the strangers who have come up to me to tell me of their own journeys into recovery... you all keep me sober.'

'I walk this path next to you. sobriety is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. it’s given me my life back so that i can once again live loud, love hard, shine bright... and when people throw shade... SHINE BRIGHTER! I love you all.'

Frankie previously discussed the impact the Manchester Arena bombing had on him.

The terrorist attack took place on 22 May last year, as Ariana fans were leaving her concert.

Twenty-two victims tragically lost their lives, while 139 were wounded- with more than half of them being children.

In an emotional letter for People, he wrote: 'After the tragic events of Manchester, with the senseless loss of life and the fear that came from knowing my family was unsafe and that I was completely powerless to protect them, I went to a very dark place with no tools to handle the feelings that came along with the devastation of the attack.

'I tried to pull myself out of the darkness by drinking and abusing prescribed drugs as I had done in the past for so many other reasons… but that only made the hole that I was trying to crawl out of even deeper.

'The party life that had once given me so much confidence and comfort had turned into a nightmare where I never felt more alone, I remember lying on my bathroom floor after a night of drunken debauchery believing my life had reached the point where living was just too painful and I was envisioning any way to stop the constant torment… I finally had the courage to ask for help.'

Meanwhile Ariana took to social media on Tuesday as she returned to the spotlight after her split from Pete Davidson.

The 25-year-old singer posted images on Instagram Stories as she took place in a dress rehearsal for A Very Wicked Halloween on Broadway.

The couple called time on their five-month romance - they got engaged after just four weeks.

Both parties have acknowledged it simply 'wasn't the right time for them', amid claims the shock death of her ex, Mac Miller on September 7, from an 'overdose,' was a 'breaking point' for the couple.

Sources say that the duo, who went public with their romance in May, 'still have love for each other, but things are over romantically.'

Her brother Frankie urged her to 'keep on breathing' following the end of her engagement.

He said on his Instagram Story: 'Good morning to my beautiful, beautiful sister. I love you so much and you're with me right now in Iceland.'

He then started singing along to Ariana's song 'breathin', which was playing in the background, and added: 'You know you gotta keep, keep on breathing. That's true.'
