Did Assi Helani insult Moroccan women with his latest single? Moroccan singer Fatima al Arousi says yes!
Fatima released a new single titled "Hadak Tama" (Don't Cross the Line) in response to Assi's song "Satta," which many Moroccans found its lyrics insulting to their women.
The "feminist" stressed that her track is an attack on Assi and "Satta's" writer as well.
Fatima said that she feels sorry for Assi, who thought he was doing Moroccans a favour by singing in their dialect to show his love for them, when in fact his single backfired instead.
She said that in reality "Satta" insulted women with its in appropriate lyrics, which were taken from Moroccan slang used by youths.
“Satta,” as Fatima clarified, is a demeaning expression used for women who use their looks and bodies for sexual pleasures.
“Assi Helani insulted Moroccan women with his song,” she said. The singer stressed that she wishes Assi had consulted Moroccans before using such words in his lyrics.
Fatima called on all singers who wish to sing in the Moroccan dialect, or any other dialect different then their own, to be careful with the vocabulary they use so that no one is insulted by them.
