The Awela Balady Ensemble will perform a special concert dedicated to legendary Egyptian musician Sheikh Imam on Tuesday, 16 April, at the Cairo Opera House's open-air theatre.
Ensemble members – including Ahmed El-Nogly, Ahmed Nafee, Hisham El-Rifaei, Ahmed El-Rifaei, Islam Mahmoud, Sarah Ibrahim, Zeinab Taleb, Ahmed Nabil, Islam Mahmoud, and Zein El-Abdeen – have created a special programme for the concert, featuring Imam's most popular songs.
These will include Oum Ya Masri ('Get Up Egyptian') and El-Bahr Beydhak Leih ('Why Is the Sea Laughing'), to name only a few.
Awela Balady, which aims to revive Egyptian musical heritage, was founded last year by musician Sheikh Alaa Ibrahim.
