Carla Bruni joked that she'd discovered her 'hidden daughter' on Sunday night, after a chance meeting with lookalike Bella Hadid.
The 50-year-old former catwalk queen met the model-of-the-moment, 21, at the Fashion For Relief event during Cannes Film Festival and couldn't get over their resemblance.
Sharing a picture of their first meeting on Instagram, Carla marvelled: 'Do I have a hidden daughter?' before taking the fashionista.
Bella - who is the model daughter of Yolanda and Mohammed Hadid - seemed to share all the same features as long-lost twin Carla.
From their similar shoulder-length brown haircuts to their straight noses and pursed lips, the duo could hardly be told apart.
Bella has also following in the Italian-French star's footsteps by carving out a career in modelling.
My hidden daughter? Carla shared a strikingly similar selfie that captured their likeness and asked, 'Do I have a hidden daughter?'
Still only 21, she is currently one of the most in-demand campaign and catwalk stars, regularly working with such brands as Dior, Moschino and Balmain.
Carla's heyday was around the same age in 1987, when she was signed to City Models at 19.
She subsequently worked with designers and fashion houses such as Givenchy, Paco Rabanne, Karl Lagerfeld, John Galliano and Yves Saint-Laurent.
While modeling, Carla was also known for dating Eric Clapton and Rolling Stones rocker Mick Jagger.
And even though Bella has found herself on the same socialite circuit as Carla once was, she insisted this week that she is not a party girl.
The 21-year-old model - who is believed to have rekindled her relationship with The Weeknd - insists she'd rather stay at home on a Saturday night than go out with friends because her work means she has to spend so much time in busy environments.
Interviewed by her sister, Gigi Hadid, for America's Harper's Bazaar magazine, she said: 'People think I'm such a party girl, but that's a thing of the past. I can't wait to just sit on the couch this weekend!
'Now that our careers have gotten to the heights that they have and our job is to be around people all day and go to parties, the last thing I want to do on a Saturday night is go out.
'I just want to be around people who love me. Like, you and I play video games, watch movies, paint pottery - all the stupid s**t we used to do back in our childhood before we became Gigi and Bella.'
