ALBAWABA - Beyoncé has broken the Grammy Awards record!
Beyoncé has become the most nominated artist in Grammy history, surpassing her husband Jay-Z.
The duo were equal with 88 nominations apiece, but Beyoncé has now surged ahead owing to accolades for her newest album, Cowboy Carter.
She now leads this year's Grammy race with 11 nominations, including best album, best country album, and song of the year with Texas Hold 'Em.
The musician's record-breaking nominations follow a controversy at last year's Grammy Awards, when Jay-Z chastised the Recording Academy for repeatedly snubbing his wife in the album of the year category.
"We want y'all to get it right," stated the 54-year-old rapper as he won the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award. "Getting close to correct. And, clearly, it is subjective. You don't have to applaud at everything. Obviously, it's subjective because, you know, it's music with opinions."
"But, you know, some things—II don't want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won album of the year," he said, alluding to the singer's work. "So, even by your own standards, it doesn't work." Think about it. The majority of Grammy winners have never won the album of the year award.
At the time, Beyoncé had four album of the year nominations, losing to Taylor Swift in 2010, Beck in 2015, Adele in 2017, and Harry Styles in 2023.
Some of you might return home tonight feeling as though someone has robbed you. Some of you may be robbed. Some of you don't fit into a category. No, when I'm worried, I speak the truth," Jay-Z said.
The rapper made similar statements in 2023, telling Tidal in an interview soon before the Grammys that he hoped the Academy would "get it right" and vote for Renaissance as album of the year.
"The truth is, we grew up with the desire to compete at the Grammy Awards, and that was our ambition." We simply want them to receive it properly.
Other top nominees this year are Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Post Malone, each with seven nominations; Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and Taylor Swift, each with six; and producer Jack Antonoff and country standout Shaboozey, all with five.
The Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles will host the live 67th Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 2, 2025.
