Cairo Int’l Song Fest Announces Winners

The last notes of the Cairo International Song Festival rang out on Tuesday, and the festival jury announced the results of the Arab and Western song contests, according to the daily Al Gumhouriyyah. 

In the Arabic song contest, the Egyptian singer Manal Ismael won the grand prize of 20,000 pounds for her song Wa Islamah. Egyptian Hana Adel also won the prize of 5,000 pounds for best performance for her song Abkam Walaken. The same song also won a 5,000-pound prize for best composition, which composer Adel Wasef received. The Iraqi poet Lamia’h Abbas won the prize of 5,000 pounds for the best poem. 

The jury awarded a letter of appreciation and a prize of 1,000 pounds to Fidaki Ya Quds, sung by Ibrahim Ahmed and May Qassab, and also to Waana Basrokh (I’m Screaming) sung by Hwaida Salah Mitwalli.The jury also awarded youngster May Mohammed Yusri a special prize for her song Sarkhat Wardeh (Rose Scream) written by Essam Zaki and remade by Hussam Yusri. 

The song Daqeit Babak (I Knocked at Your Door) by the Iraqi singer and composer Elham Al Madfae’i won a letter of appreciation and 1,000 pounds.  

From Saudi Arabia, the song Fik Shai (There’s Something in You), composed and sung by Nayef Al Bader, won a letter of appreciation and 1,000 pound prize. From Jordan, the song Ya Insan (Human Being) by the duo Reem and Muna Al Rayyan shared the 1000-pound prize with the song Eini Beik sung by Shatha Mamdouh from Libya. 

In the Western contest, the US$10,000 grand prize was shared between the song Min Ajl Ebnati (For the Sake of My Daughter) by the Egyptian singer Shamel Al Sawi, and the song Etha Ebtaadt A’nni (If You Go Away From Me) sung by Monica Angel from Romania. 

Ireland and Egypt shared the contest first prize of US$4,000 for the “21st century” Irish song composed and sung by Edwin Diliasso and Ibn Al Janoub (Son of the South) sung by the Egyptian Love and Peace Team. 

The Egyptian singer, Yaser Shaaban shared the US$3,000 second prize for his song Kabla Ann Yafout Al Awan with Mustafa Shadi for his song Biyinsheghel Balna. The US$2,000 third prize was shared between Mohammed Abu Al Shaeikh from Egypt for his song Hubb Al Hayat (Life Love) and the Swedish singer Eddy Casthalt for his song Million Mile Minal Bait (One Million Miles from the House).  

The song Al Failasouf (Philosopher) won the US$1,000 prize for the best distribution by composer Tamer Karawan from Egypt – Albawaba.com
