The Ramadan TV drama series "Al Ama Nour" (Aunt Nour), which stars Egyptian actress Nabila Obeid and is aired on most local and satellite television stations throughout the holy month of Ramadan, has been attacked with numerous criticism in Egypt accusing it of being pro-American. The show has been referred to as supporting the western code of ethics and ways of life in a time when the region is in a state of mixed emotions due to the current US-invasion of Iraq and the US ongoing support to Israel.

The main reason behind the criticism is the fact that the director of the drama portrays the American ways of life as the solution to the problems that occur in Egyptian society through the main character in the serried "Aunt Nour" (played by Nabila). Nabila in the series returns to Egypt with a doctorate in Behavioral therapy from the US, living there for over 25 years, and takes on the responsibility of treating young teenagers who are either addicted to drugs or face behavioral problems.

One of the critics stresses that despite the fact that the series is witnessing an enormous number of viewers due to the strategic timing the show is aired, many people make fun of the way the characters, especially the main one, use the English language and pretend to be native speakers, reported the London based daily, Al Quds Al Arabi. In addition to the fact that the problems raised in the series are too general and do not target the core of problems faced by most youths.

Obeid had hired private security guards to protect the advertising posters she has throughout the streets of Egypt for the Ramadan TV drama she stars in “Aunt Nour”. Nabila has taken such drastic measures after she realized that perpetrators were stealing the posters and were ruining them. The guards walked through the streets where the posters are hung and will report any stolen posters or any messed with ones.

Disputes have once again broken out between Nabila, Yusra and Elham Shahin over their advertising campaigns for the different Ramadan TV drama series they star in. Conflicts began when Nabila accused Yusra and Elham of imitating her technique of advertising for her TV drama series "Al Ama Nour" (Aunt Nour) by posting large posters on every street corner in Egypt.

Nabila stressed that she had agreed with the producer of her series over making large posters and hanging them throughout streets and public places in Egypt, and that she had signed an official copyright for the idea in order not to be used by other actors. On her part Yusra revealed that such an idea can not be the sole right of any one person for the mere fact that every actor is entitled to advertise for his work in any way he feels is most suitable.

Elham denied imitating Nabila, saying that she only wished Nabila the best of luck in her first appearance on the small screen. Elham added that she is too occupied at the moment with shooting different series to be involved in disputes with other actresses. Elham did not deny the fact that she intends on advertising for her TV drama series "Nijmat Al Jamaheer" (Superstar) in the same manner as Nabila did for her series saying that it is the best way to make the public aware of what kind of works will be shown. -Al Bawaba.com
