Death Threat Forces Cheb Khaled to Axe Karachi Concert

Algerian Rai singer Cheb Khaled’s cancellation of concerts in Pakistan over a death threat has the promoter furious. 

A hot court battle has erupted between the promoter in Karachi and the renowned singer, who resides in Paris, according to the UAE daily Al Bayan. 

The Pakistani promoter, Zahed Siddiqi, said in a press conference in Karachi that Khaled received $75,000, 80 percent of the contract value, up front. However, said the promoter, Khaled failed to come to Pakistan to perform two the concerts stipulated in the agreement. 

The promoter has filed a suit in a French court demanding compensation for his allegedly huge losses and has had to reimburse fans for advance ticket sales. 

News reports said that Cheb Khaled had received threats to is life if he sang in Pakistan, possibly by a competing Pakistani competitor promoter.  

The competitor allegedly offered Khaled twice the amount stipulated in the contract with Siddiqi if he would perform in Karachi - Albawaba.com
