Syrian singer Diana has released her first album in Amman, including six songs originating in the country’s mountainous areas, the Gulf and the Muwashah genre, as well as the singing styles of Sabah Fakhri and Walid Tawfiq.
The album includes a joint song with the Syrian artist Mohammed Khalil, who resides in Amman. The song was written by the Jordanian poet Fahed Ramadhan and put to music by Walid Tawfiq. There is also a special song dedicated to the Palestinian Intifada.
Diana told the London-based daily Al Sharq Al Awsat that she intended to turn to children’s songs and participate in the annual Jordanian Children’s Song Festival as her first experience.
The singer said that she felt she belonged to the world of childhood adding, “I think this style will contribute to the development of my singing and show my capabilities. I have agreed with the Iraqi composer Basel Al Jarrah to compose two songs for children written by the Jordanian poets Mohammed Al Thaher and Nabila Al Khatib.”
Diana is an Arabic literature student in her final year at Tishreen University. She also studies music at a specialized institute in Damascus and intends to get her master’s degree in Syrian feminine singing - Albawaba.com
