Controversial Egyptian belly dancer Dina said in an interview with a satellite channel during the Cairo Film Festival that she was hoping to participate in the movie “Sukar Banat” (Sugar Girls) by Lebanese director Nadine Labki. She adds that she admired the role of Rema the lesbian, and had dreamed of playing it.

Even though the preparing for the showing of the film did not go well, many of the audience had to sit on the floor to watch the movie and at the entrance of the show room with no supervision. Many of the people who were invited were not able to enter because of the large crowds.

According to the London daily Elaph, Dina adds that the storyline of the film will revolt many in Egypt and in the Arab World since it discusses the issue of being a lesbian. She said that this kind of life style is found among many girls and also adds that this issue will be seen more in other Arabic films in the future.

After breaking the forbidden line of what is allowed in the Arabic cinema, Nadine is not the only director who included a lesbian role in her film. Also the film “Heen Maysarh” also introduced a sexual relationship of two women; where Egyptian actresses Somaya Al Khashab and Ghada Abed Al Razaq have played the role of lesbians.
