Belly dancers were busting a groove to gain the elite status of best belly dancer in the world, but now we wonder if any of the hip-shaking contestants will be allowed to continue their TV show journey to fame.
She's used to being a show stopper, but not in this sense of the term. The new talent program "Al Raqisa" (The Dancer) hosted by Egyptian belly dancer Dina and two Tunisian actresses had one moment in the spotlight as the first episode aired, but now fans and contestants are furious and curious after the network "Al Qahira wal Nas" said that it will be reconsidering airing the show.
According to Sayidaty.net, the network blamed the decision on the current political conditions, but Laha Magazine reports that many have speculated that the real reason behind stopping the program is that self-righteous religious scholars have passed around a petition attacking the program's non-traditional ethics and religious teachings.
Among the scholars against the program are Sheikh Khaled Al Jundi, Mithhar Shaheen, Suad Saleh, and others.
This is a hard reality to swallow for the crew that has been busting their booty for months, travelling to numerous countries to select foreign and Arab belly dancers contestants.
Do you predict we'll see Dina back on our small screens, or is "Al Riqasa" really over? Please share in the comment box below!
