Don't cry for me Lebanon: Sabah's last wish for cheers & no tears on her Sunday funeral

Hundreds of admirers, artists and public figures joined the family of legendary Lebanese diva Sabah for her funeral Sunday.

Egyptian artists including Elham Shahine, Layla Elwi, Lublubah, Boussy, Sameer Sabri, Mohammad Abdel Aziz, Boussy Shalabi and Ashraf Abdel Ghafour, Head of the Egyptian Actors Syndicate flew in to say goodbye to the deceased.

Dabke dancers adorned in extravagant outfits performed on the streets to Sabah's music outside the hotel where the singer resided in the eastern Beirut suburb of Hazmieh.

The funeral for the artist, who died Wedensday at the age of 87, started around 10 a.m.

A convoy of black hearses, led by a white one carrying her coffin, left Hazmieh around noon and arrived in Downtown Beirut about half an hour later towards the Saint George Church where Sabah will be laid to rest after the funeral mass.

In a climate of both grief and appreciation, hundreds of singers, actors, media hosts, as well as friends, relatives and fans of the late diva gathered to say their farewells.

Numerous wreaths decorated the path of the convoy, including one from Lebanese singer Fairuz.

“Your sun never sets,” she wrote.
