Egypt's King of Comedy met Tunisia's President Beji Caid Essebsi at Carthage Palace last week.

Adel Imam, 76, was in Tunisia as the guest of honor at a ceremony celebrating Sfax as the Capital of Arab Culture 2016.

The President greeted Imam with "hello Colonel" - referring to one of the veteran actor's most famous roles - before granting him the National Order of Merit for his contributions to Arab culture.

During the ceremony, President Essebsi cited a French quote to Imam, to which he jokingly responded with: "In my house, when someone speaks in French, I know that they're talking about me, because I can't speak the language."

The President and everyone in attendance were amused by Imam's natural sense of humor.

On a serious note, Imam was sincerely thankful for his Merit and to the "culture and arts-loving" Tunisian people, while being grateful that Cairo is still a place reflective of culture for Tunisians and the Arab world.
