A new adventure is facing prominent Egyptian actress Elham Shahin in a new role where she portrays the character of a mentally challenged 70-year-old woman. The new movie entitled “Kibdet April” (April Fools) costars Ashraf Abdul Baqi, Majida al-Khatieeb, Enas Makki, and directed by Mohammed Abu Seif.

According to the London based daily, Al Quds Al Arabi, Elham reveals that she is very excited to perform such a role because it is very challenging and people like to keep thinking about these personalities.

Elham says that all her colleagues are performing complicated roles. Majida al-Khateeb is performing the role of a woman paranoid about cleanness. Enas Makki is performing the role of a woman who hates the sun and sunshine. Ashraf Abdul Baqi who performs the role of an advertisement designer does the only straight role.

The role for Elham is considered a challenge because she is performing the role of Ashraf’s mother, who is two years older than her in real life. She says that she goes to the clinics of mentally challenged people to watch closely how they act so she can perform her role to perfectly and accurately.

With regards of accepting the role of the Egyptian queen Hetchepsut, Elham revealed that she disregarded the whole idea because of the high cost of the work. Elham added that it is her first cooperation with the director Mohammed Abu Seif, but they have many things in common like loving adventure and being crazy about the cinema.

The actress is very optimistic about this film because previously she had done a similar role in the movie “Ayyam al-Gadab” and she won three national and international prizes for her role.

The Egyptian Censorship Committee has demanded that the company that is producing the latest film “Albanat Wal Mafia” (Girls and the Mafia) starring Elham must have a clear sign on all its advertisements stressing that it is rated R and can only be seen by grownups. The film is to be directed by Ali Abdul Khaliq and will costar Egyptian actor Mahmoud Qabeel and Aydah Riad.

The committee added that the film, which is written by Lebanese scenarist Sana Sarbieh, has many scenes and language that is not appropriate for young viewers and need a mature audience. The film is based on a true story and revolves around an international circle of people in the mafia including very important officials. - Albawaba.com
