ALBAWABA - At long last, Gordon Ramsay has spoken up about the terrifying bike accident that left him severely injured in June.
A "crater-like pothole" almost derailed the "Hell's Kitchen" host's bike ride, he said in an interview with Men's Health that came out Thursday.
The shock threw him off his 2-wheeler as his bike spun around in a full circle. In the process of reattaching the chain to his bike and continuing his ride, he discovered that his helmet had completely shattered, resulting in blood and blurred eyesight.
Ramsay remembered thinking, "I honestly thought I was going to pass out" when the event happened.
The famous chef contacted his assistant, Justin Mandel, and they dispatched an ambulance to his location on a road in Connecticut. Upon arrival in the hospital, computed tomography scans confirmed that he had no broken bones.
Physiotherapy and lymphatic drainage treatments were mandatory daily treatments for Ramsay as his wounds healed.
Simple tasks like putting on socks and pants were impossible. When I was younger, Justin would get me dressed for the day. I was embarrassed to admit that I was 95 years old. He expressed embarrassment when he asked the 30-year-old to put on his underwear.
After telling his Instagram followers he was "lucky to be here" after a bicycle accident, Ramsay first revealed the news on Father's Day.
It has been a terrible week, and I am in agony. However, he did state that he was overcoming the challenge.
As he cautioned everyone to wear a helmet, he proudly displayed two before and after pictures of the accident, along with an enormous purple bruise that ran up his side from his waist to his ribs.
You must wear a helmet, I swear. It makes no difference to me how brief the trip is," he said.
"I don't have any serious injuries and haven't broken any bones, but the bruises have turned me into a purple potato."
