From the Star Trek set, to a DJ set, actor Idris Elba brought some star power to DXBeach last Friday.

Despite his acting chops, the British Golden Globe winner has been DJing as Driis, and has released his own tracks, such as You Give Me Love featuring Maverick Sabre and appears in Nigerian hip-hop artist D’Banj’s music video for his single, Confidential.

“I mostly taught myself to DJ, but I did used to lift the speaker boxes for my uncle when he would do weddings. He was the first to really turn me on to it,” reports Time Out Dubai. “I love working with music, making people dance.”

Organisers Greg Dufton and Tim Derry of Sandance fame have brought a scaled down version of Sandance to Zero Gravity. Known for hosting big names such as Florence + The Machine and and Noel Gallagher, Sandance saw audiences of up to 15,000 people.

DXBeach catered for a younger crowd, ensured by the youthful line-up.  At 43, Idris Elba could be considered the senior citizen compared to Brits Clean Bandit, French house producer Klingande and Dutch producer Mike Mago.

The cozier atmosphere of Zero Gravity's beach ensured easy access to the facilities and fun, which icluded a Redbull flightsimulator, quirky stalls and free glitter face jewels.

We're hoping that it's still early days for this festival to catch up to Sandance greatness, and the best is still yet to come.
