International superstar Jennifer Lopez got a local Moroccan TV station into trouble after putting on a spectacular yet "suggestive" show as the opening act of Morocco's 14th annual Mawazine Festival in May.
The reason?
According to Al Watan Voice news, the 45-year-old singer's revealing diamond-encrusted leotard, which she teamed up with knee-high boots, and her sensual moves didn't go down too well with thousands of the more conservative local TV viewers, who demanded that Communications Minister Mustafa Al-Khalfi is fired for broadcasting her act on Morocco's state TV.
However, on Tuesday, a Moroccan regulator said that the request by Islamist Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane to sanction 2M TV has been rejected.
At the time, Benkirane called for sanctions against 2M TV's management, saying the performance had "sexual connotations" and provoked the "religious and moral values of the country," reported AFP.
His request was sent in the form of a letter to the High Audiovisual Communication Authority (HACA) urging it to take action.
Despite HACA writing on its website that its mission is to "ensure... the respect of universal principles of pluralism and information objectivity, as well as the values of Moroccan civilization," it rejected Benkirane's request because "such actions were outside its remit," according to AFP.
