ALBAWABA - Liam Payne, a former One Direction member, died after falling from the third story of his hotel room in Argentina, according to provincial police.
Police said in a statement that they received an emergency call about "an aggressive man who may have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol."
Alberto Crescenti, head of SAME, Buenos Aires Emergency Medical Services, told ABC News that emergency services were contacted Wednesday evening to deal with a guy behaving erratic and maybe under the influence.
Crescenti reported that they found Payne's corpse in the hotel's inner courtyard and declared him dead there.
When they arrived, the officer in command reported hearing a tremendous boom in the hotel's inner courtyard. The police reported that they had taken the deceased to a morgue.
Crescenti informed local Argentine media source TN that Payne fell 13 to 14 meters (42 to 45 feet), characterizing his injuries as "very serious" and "incompatible with life."
Crescenti noted that emergency personnel arrived at the location at 5:11 p.m. local time, seven minutes after receiving the emergency services call. Crescenti also informed the publication that the person, whose identity was revealed after his death, could not be saved.
The English vocalist was 31 years old.
Payne was a member of the popular boyband, along with Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik.
He initially sought fame when he auditioned for the ITV talent program The X Factor in 2008, but judge Simon Cowell advised him to "come back in two years."
In 2010, as he continued to impress the judges, they paired him with four other single hopefuls during the bootcamp stage, leading to the formation of One Direction.
Before declaring a break in 2015, the trio achieved four UK number one albums, four number one singles, and topped charts all around the globe.
Payne's first solo single Strip That Down debuted at number three on the Official UK Chart in 2017, while his duet with Rita Ora on the song For You (from the Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack) also entered the top ten.
He married Girls Aloud actress Cheryl Cole in 2016, and the couple had a son, Bear, the following year. The pair separated in 2018.
