The London run of Egyptian actor Adel Imam’s play Bodyguard has been cancelled, according to the show’s organizer, Omar Al Khatib.
Khatib told the London-based daily Al Sharq Al Awsat that the play was cancelled because the set did not comply with a municipal ordinance requiring the use of fire-resistant materials.
“The set materials were scheduled to be shipped to London on British Airways on the fifth of this month so that it would be ready next Friday, said Khatib.
“The completion of the work as set by Wimbley municipality would at least take one week, which does not match with the date set for the first show. This is in addition to the fact that Imam is already scheduled to stage the play in Egypt.”
Khatib said that he had contacted Imam, who was in Jordan where the play was being staged, to inform him of the situation.
He said Imam expressed his regrets and gave instructions to refund the money earned from advance ticket sales.
Khatib said he was mulling the idea of staging the play in Paris and the UAE, but added that it would not be performed in London before next summer - Albawaba.com
