The 26th edition of the Carthage Film Festival (JCC) kicked off on Saturday evening at the Municipal Theatre in Tunis.

The official kickoff, which was attended by Prime Minister Habib Essid and several political officials and members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Tunis, was given by Minister of Culture and Heritage Preservation Latifa Lakdhar.

The holding of this film festival is the best response to the scourge of terrorism that hit not only Tunisia but the entire mankind, said Latifa Lakdhar.

In a symbolic gesture, the JCC was declared open by sponsor of the 26th edition Spanish singer and actress Victoria Abril who said she is honoured to be present at this top Arab and African festival, noting that cinema “is now a therapy that helps us live in this difficult situation.”

A large number of guests and stars were present, including Moroccan Nabil Ayouch, Egyptian actor Khaled Abu Nagua, Lebanese artist Maya Diab, Egyptian film maker Daoud Abdessaied as well as Tunisians Ali Bennour, Lofti Bouchnaq, Ferid Boughdir, Dorra Bouchoucha, Mohamed Ali Ben Jemaa, Ferial Youssef, Amel Alouane..
