After her success at Cannes, Egyptian actress Mina Shalabi has had her pick of roles but even for her, playing the Algerian Rose is a tough ask. Director, Majdi Ahmad is keen to get Mina on board for his TV biopic of the legendary Algerian singer, Warda, but so far he's had no confirmation from his leading lady.
The drama, called 'Midah al Qamar' (Admiration of the Moon) tackles the life of Baligh Hamdi, who was married to Warda for just over a decade. If Mina takes the role, she will be starring opposite Amr Waked who is set to play Baligh. Rumor has it the script has been more than three years in the making as director, Majdi Ahmad, struggled to find the perfect actors for the parts.
