Imagine dating someone who's become a huge celeb... only after you've broken up with them! Yeah, that would suck!
But that's exactly what happened to the ex-lover of Palestinian singer Mohammad Assaf.
The Arab Idol winner said that he's only been in love once in his life, and it was with a girl from Gaza. The two met after Mo graduated from high school.
However, it wasn't a happy ending for the loved-up couple; Mohammad said that his ex was keen on marrying him at the time, but due to his poor finances and the big number of men proposing to her at the time, he wasn't able to afford a wedding and she tied the knot to someone else instead.
“She's my first love, I met her after graduating from high school but we weren't meant to be. She got married because she had many suitors, my finances didn't allow me to marry at the time,” Assaf said, according to the ME news portal Elaph.
The young romantic believes that in the end, everything in life comes down to destiny. He does believe though that had she waited for him, they would have enjoyed the joys of fame together.
As for the rumor chasing him regarding his involvement with fellow Arab Idol contestant Salma Rashid, he said that it's become a “nuisance.”
“I've been asked this question a million times, and I answered it a million times. Have mercy on me. This is my private life and the subject has been blown out of proportion.”
