A violent dispute erupted on Friday between the husband of Lebanese singer Najwa Karam, Yousef Harb, and her brother Nicola, according to the London-based daily Al Sharq Al Awsat.

The spat developed into a brawl that ended up with the pair being questioned at the police station of the Lebanese town of Junieh, where Harb was detained at a late hour.

Harb was reportedly about to enter the Malibu tourist resort in Junieh when he ran into his brother in-law and the two exchanged unpleasantries.

Karam’s driver interfered and cussed out Harb, which spurred the latter to spray the driver’s face with an anaesthetic and other chemical substances. The driver was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Sources said that Harb, who was beaten, was moved to the hospital, where he received the necessary treatment before he was questioned at the police station upon instructions of the prosecutor general.

This incident comes after a similar but a less violent one which took place between Harb and his wife’s brothers against the backdrop of Najwa Karam’s marriage against the will of her family.

In other news, the Lebanese singer denied that she and her husband faced a jail sentence in the US for allegedly violating NAFTA.

Press reports claimed that Harb was accused of forging official documents to enable illegal immigrants enter the US, and that he was ordered to pay a $20 million fine.

The singer said in a phone call with the paper that the report was baseless and aimed at harming her by defaming her husband.

She added that she would leave, along with her husband, for the US early next September to sing in Las Vegas, Chicago and other American cities, after obtaining an entry visa - Albawaba.com
