Obaid Suroor is an artist based in the UAE, finding inspiration in the local natural landscape; he paints reality according to his own unique perspective.

The country’s dramatic scenery is the muse to Obaid’s talent, black rock mountains, domineering forts and castles, the azure sea, emerald palm trees and old mud houses have all piqued his interest in art and creation.

“It is mandatory upon me as an artist to maintain this relationship with my heritage and document it,” claims the proud national.

In a bid to establish a distinct, personal vision, he depicts his surroundings using self-made techniques, making Obaid’s work a thoroughly personal statement.

“Reverse imprinting technology conveys colorful effects which enable me
to extend them into a piece of art, either Islamic art by employing letters or natural scenery by changing the background,” described the artist.

Mastering the technology of artistic creation took years, and occurred during Obaid’s study in Egypt.

Upon graduation he returned to rural Ras al- Khaimah, in the UAE, to give back to the al-Qassimiyah School where Obaid learnt on how to color as a child.

As a token of gratitude, he established an art workshop to support young artists who showed great promise in the field of artistic creation, Obaid successfully imparted his own flair and love of art to the students that he mentors.
