Omani film, Mahra Story will be screened at the fifth edition of the Arab Film Festival in Busan and Seoul in Korea.
The film, directed by Omani filmmaker Salim Bahwan, addresses the issue of mehr (dowry) and its effects on society.
Speaking about the film's entry at the festival, an excited Bahwan said, “To have a film shown outside Oman and the region is a matter of great pride, happiness and achievement. I am thankful to my crew and fans for their trust in me. The film was referred to the festival by someone flying Oman Air. We got the information from the Korean Embassy in Muscat.”
Mahra's Story was shot in RED camera by a 16-member crew in Salalah in 40 days. The film was made under Sur Media Production and Distribution. Popular UAE actress Rania al Ali plays the female lead in the movie. Bahwan, who too has acted in the film, said that he will not be attending the event due to some shooting commitments for television.
The film festival will be held from May 26 to June 1. Some of the other films that will be screened at the festival are from countries such as Iraq, Morocco, Tunisia, Jordan, UAE and Algeria. On May 7 Bahwan was also felicitated at a film and theatre festival in Cairo for his contribution to theatre.
