Bad news for Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred, his family and fans, after The Appeal Court of Paris confirmed on Monday the provisional detention of the singer.

Saad was arrested on October 31 in Paris for "aggravated rape."

“In accordance with the request of the public prosecutor, the investigating chamber of the appeal court upheld the provisional detention ordered by a judge of freedoms and detention,” according to AFP.

While the French judicial system isn't giving the celebrity any special treatment, his three lawyers, Eric Dupont Moretti, Brahim Rachidi, and Jean Marc Fedida, intend to escalate the case and have it moved from the Court of Appeal to the higher Court of Cassation.

Moretti, who was personally appointed by King Mohammed VI of Morocco to defend Lamjarred, was hoping that his client would be released on bail by November 10.

Meanwhile, Moroccan newspaper Hespress reported that the alleged 20-year-old victim of the assault "has refused to appear in court and she plans to travel." The sources added that "The prosecutor claims that she has projects [abroad] and she needs to travel."

The singer's arrest has shocked Morocco and the Arab world. However, several Arab celebrities, including Ahlam, Dounia Batma, Ibtissam Tiskat, Othmane Mouline, and Hatim Ammor, among others, have shown their support for Lamjarred.
