It was a star-studded weekend full of memorable performances at this year’s Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival.

Things kicked off on Wednesday night with British singer James Blunt who opened with his soul searching Face the Sun. Wearing a pair of jeans and a grey t-shirt, the 41-year-old blended seamlessly with the crowds gathered at Dubai Media City Amphitheatre as he belted out his greatest hits accompanied by his piano and guitar.

Opening act Christina Perri, in a white long sleeved shirt and a short black skirt, slowed things down with the ballad Jar of Hearts before closing with an energy-packed performance of her latest hit Human.

On Thursday night, legendary rocker Sting fired up fans by opening his set with the classic Lose Myself To You, looking incredibly youthful and donning a bushy beard. The iconic musician took the audience on a trip down memory lane with a selection of unforgettable tunes including Message In A Bottle, which helped his band The Police secure a place in The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

Famed instrumentalist Lindsey Stirling warmed things up earlier in the night with a spectacular violin solo that electrified the crowds. During her performance the self-proclaimed “dancing violinist” put her energy on full display, running back and forth across the stage with her ginger pony tail flowing freely.

The Jazz Festival’s closing night on Friday brought soul star John Legend centre stage alongside his trusty piano. Quickly elevating the evening’s tempo with an uplifting repertoire of hip-hop soul, blues gospel and jazz tunes, the audience was in a frenzy. The highlight of his performance was the Middle Eastern rendition of last year’s most popular romantic ballad All of Me heard live for the first time globally since Sony released it last month.

Jazz superstar Esperanza Spalding heated things up with an earlier set, performing songs oscillating between celo, electric guitar and bass with a rollercoaster voice that mesmerised everyone in the crowd.
