Emotions were running high for contestants and coaches on The Voice this weekend as stage two of the competition got underway.
Flirtatious Assi Hilani showed a more serious side in this week’s episode as he struggled to decide who would make the cut for his final team. The battle between Muhsen Lutfawi and Murad Buriqi proved particularly difficult for the Lebanese superstar, as he said: “I’m going to cry, I swear on the lives of my children I am going to cry,” before shielding his face from the audience. But, although the ‘Arab knight’ might be struggling with the sing-offs, he can take comfort in knowing that female viewers were pleased to see this more sensitive side.
This week even Saber Al Rubai managed to tone down the whacky antics as he focused on the serious business of picking his final team. In a standout performance two of his competitors, Ibrahim Al Dawalibi and Qusai Hatem, battled it out on stage with a duet of popular song ‘Al Ghargan’ (The Drowner). After some serious deliberating, Saber crowned Hatem as winner making another strong addition to his vocal squad.
Elsewhere on the panel, Kathem Al Saher is still managing to keep his cool. The Iraqi singer endeared himself to audiences this weekend when he took to the stage to apologise to popular contestant Wissam after she lost out to worthy competitor Ruby in a tense vocal battle.
And, this week even Sherine Abdel Wahab seemed more serious. Dressed to impress in red, the star was unnaturally quiet as she cast an eye over the battles. But, in true Shireen fashion in the last performance of the evening between Fareed Ghanem and Nouraldeen Dirballi, unable to make a decision the songstress dramatically hid behind her chair. After being urged to hurry up, an angry Shirine responded: "Damn you, you want me to rush into making a choice!" But, the usually unruly diva surprsisngly managed to stick to the show's rules choosing Fareed as her winner.
As the competition continues to heat up, all eyes are on the coaches to see how they will handle the growing pressure.
