Tunisian actor Tamim Abdo has been banned from acting in Egypt, Al-Araby al-Jadeed reports.
The Egyptian actors’ syndicate alleges that the actor has been working in Egypt without a work permit, in violation of the syndicate's laws. The syndicate has requested producers in Egypt to refrain from working with the actor until his case has been resolved by the general prosecution.
Abdo is a stalwart of Ramadan television series and a graduate of Egypt’s High Institute for Theatrical Arts. He has acted in numerous well-known Egyptian films and series such as the 2009 film “Ehki Ya Sharazad,” the 2012 series “Fer’et Nagy Atallah” with Adel Imam and the 2011 series “Share’ Abd Al-Aziz” with Amr Saad.
He has also worked with Youssef Chahine’s film company for almost 22 years.
The actor released a statement saying that he was not well informed of the issue as he believed it to be a matter taken care of by his producers, and that he could not comment any further as he was out of Egypt.
“When I return to Egypt soon, I will head to the syndicate to understand the matter and resolve the issue if needed. I did not intend at all to violate the rules of the profession or the laws of the syndicate whose Charmian and board of directors I give all the respect and appreciation to” reported StepFeed.
The ban is part of additional controversial syndicate decisions taken since Ashraf Zaki assumed the presidency in June.
Already unhappy with the 'dramatically unjustified' nude scenes of the Ramadan series, the syndicate warned that it would be pursuing legal action against those acting in the many Ramadan series without work permits.
