Abu Dhabi satellite channel has designated the Syrian actor Ayman Zedan to present the contest program Waznak Thahab (Your Weight in Gold), which will be aired on September 16.
The appointment comes after Kuwaiti artist Daoud Hussein sent his regrets for not being able to present the program because of commitments to other work.
The program is based on a new concept that attempts to combine the most successful features of other quiz shows.
The London-based daily Al Sharq Al Awsat cited the program designers as saying that it addressed the mind of the viewer and enriched his intellect through a combination of knowledge and technology.
Participants from all over the Arab World will compete in the program. Each episode lasts for an hour, and the prize is the winner’s weight in gold along with dozens of other prizes of pure gold.
The program is produced by the Emirate Media Group (owner of Abu Dhabi TV), Tiba Jewelry Co. and the International Gold Council, a non-profit organization established in collaboration with leading international gold mining companies.
The Egyptain daily Al Ahram cited the international gold council media executive, Samah Nabil as saying that the program was considered the biggest in the world in terms of the prize value.
“Participants from all over the Arab World will compete to win a prize equal to their weight of gold, in addition to dozens of other prizes of pure gold, the smallest of which would be 100 grams of gold,” added Nabil.
Participation in the contest will be via telephone. It has also been agreed with gold shops that hang the program banner to give each of their clients a coupon that he or she can send in for a drawing.
The winner will be offered a free ticket to Abu Dhabi to participate in the last stage of the program, which lasts for one hour.
TV channels are rushing to attract the largest audience by offering prizes, ever since the success of quiz shows such as Man Sayarbah Al Million (Who Wants to Win a Million?), presented by George Kirdahi and Haram Al Ahlam (Dream Pyramid) starring by Ezzat Abu Auf - Albawaba.com
