Get ready to fight for your tickets. West Side Story will have its spectacular GCC premiere at Dubai Opera, in February 2017. Tickets go on sale to the general public today at 3:30pm.
Hitting the stage just in time for Valentine's Day, the multiple Tony award-winning show, has captured the hearts of fans from around the globe for nearly 60 years. Based on the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet, the musical is set in Upper West Side, New York City and explores the animosity between two rival gangs; the Jets and the Sharks.
Arthur Laurents' original novel was adapted into a Broadway musical and later, an Academy Award-winning film, which includes Leonard Bernstein's classic score and Stephen Sondheim's lyrics "I Feel Pretty", "America", "Maria", "Tonight" and many more.
Jasper Hope, Chief Executive at Dubai Opera said, "West Side Story is an iconic musical known, and one that has been loved the world over for more than 50 years. It's fantastic to be able to bring this incredible production for the first time ever to the GCC and to introduce this timeless classic to an entirely new audience".
With an impressive cast of 36 performers and a total of 80 participants, Joey McKneely's award-winning staging will be taking to the road bringing with it Jerome Robbins' original choreography, which remains as visually stunning and integral to the storyline as when it first graced the stage half a century ago.
Tickets for West Side Story will be going live at 3:30pm on July 13 and will be available to purchase from Dubai Opera website.
