GCAA conducts industry familiarization session on its new regulations

The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) conducted on 20 June 2011, an industry familiarization session on its newly issued Civil Aviation Regulations at Emirates Airlines Engineering auditorium in Dubai.
The session introduced CAR M and CAR 21, and changes to existing CAR 145 based on European standards. The GCAA is responsible to regulate aviation activities relating to airworthiness of an aircraft to ensure aviation safety in the UAE.
Around 132 representatives from UAE Aviation sector attended the familiarization session that was presented by GCAA specialists; Zahid Munawar, Manager Engineering Safety, Omar Bin Musa, Senior Airworthiness Inspector and Devan Ramasamy, Senior Airworthiness Inspector.
At the occasion Eng. Ismaeil Al Balooshi Executive Director Aviation Safety Affairs said “The GCAA is working hard to bring its regulations in line with the international requirements which will enhance aviation safety and help the GCAA to work towards international agreements, hence enhancing international acceptability of the approvals and certificates issued by the GCAA. We appreciate the support from the industry and I am confident that as the industry grows the GCAA will develop more partnership to support the growth.”
Eng. Ahmed Al Rawahi, Director of Airworthiness mentioned “It is an important time for the GCAA as it is transforming from its old regulatory regime to new which is in line with the European regulations. This would require even more cooperation between the GCAA and the Industry.”
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) mandates states to formulate modern and up-to-dated regulations in the safety oversight management of the aviation activities. As a leading Authority in the region, the GCAA is always focusing on improving aviation safety and is continuously modernizing its safety regulations by updating them for aligning with ICAO requirements and to cater for evolving technology, incorporating the lesson or experience learned from accident and incident and to ensure level playing field for the industry players.

General Civil Aviation Authority
The General Civil Aviation Authority was created in 1996 by Federal Cabinet Decree (Law 4) to regulate Civil Aviation and provide designated aviation services with observance to the safety and security to strengthen the aviation industry within the UAE and its upper space. Since 1996 the Authority has made considerable progress and embarked on bold new initiatives to provide a better service to its civil aviation clients and stakeholders. Since 1996 many new projects and innovations have been initiated with generally excellent result, such as modernization of the air traffic control center program, Radar equipments and establishing of new facilities to serve the growth of the civil aviation within the UAE.
