ALBAWABA - Polish swimmer Bartłomiej Kubkowski made history as the first person in the world to swim across the Baltic Sea between Sweden and Poland.
The athlete posted a video of his achievement and confirmed that he is the first to swim through the Baltic Sea, a distance of just over 160 kilometres.
Kubkowski clambered onto the beach in the town of Dziwnów on Poland’s northern Baltic coast after approximately a 56-hour journey, achieving a world record. It is worth noting that the Polish swimmer started his trip from Kaseberga in Sweden on Friday.
According to sources, this was Kubkowski's fifth attempt to finish the journey from Sweden to Poland via the Baltic Sea.
His effort this year has raised over 715,000 zloty (approximately $191,326) for children’s cancer treatment so far, with donations to his fundraiser continuing.
Nonetheless, another Polish swimmer, called Karolina Szczepaniak, is also en route at the time of writing this article with hopes to swim from Sweden to Poland along a slightly different route to Kubkowski’s.
She has crossed around 110 km of the 172km route, and has raised about 400,000 zloty (approximately $107,087) for charity.
