Local and global: Regional group Rumour ready to rock with Boney M in Muscat

A local band is all set to do the opening act at the upcoming Boney M FT Maizie Williams concert.

The original Boney M ft band member will lead a nine-member troupe to Oman to perform at the concert on February 5 at the Oman Automobile Association grounds.

The local band, Rumour, is elated to be performing alongside one of the world's most famous bands.

"We are looking forward to warming up the crowd and then enjoying the show afterwards. Boney M has always displayed tremendous energy in their shows and we are sure that the crowd in Muscat is going to enjoy a wonderful evening with their hits," said Shyline D'mello Frank, lead vocalist of the band.

The other members of the band Rumour are Rocky Gomes (drummer), Robert D'Souza (lead and rhythm guitar), Joe Carvalho (lead and rhythm guitar), Clifford D'Silva (keyboard) Croyden Menezes (bass guitar) and Sophiya Borlee (lead vocalist).

Talking about how they got the call to perform at the concert, Shyline said, "We are a group which really enjoys music and performing. The seven of us have never played together at a show before. After receiving the invitation to perform before the Boney M Concert from the organisers we scouted around and found who we think are the best team for the job. All the members are extremely passionate about music and although we are only playing 6 songs, many hours of practice have already been put in."

On the songs, they will sing she said, "The list comprises of new songs from within the last five years and we do hope that the crowd will enjoy the performance. The entire band feels that is an honour and a privilege to open a show for the legendary Boney M and each one has many memories of their favourite songs and when they first heard them. Their music is gold – the songs are still wonderful to listen to, after so many decades the magic is still there."
