Friday’s coup attempt in Turkey ended in disaster for the putschists, as forces loyal to president Recep Tayyip Erdogan swiftly emerged victorious. Erdogan is now consolidating power, and scores of soldiers and government officials-including much of the education sector-have either been arrested or dismissed in recent days. Because so many have been relieved from their positions, a meme depicting the new Turkish president’s cabinet as several men all with Erdogan’s face is now circulating social media.
The meme is quite humorous. Presumably derived from an old picture of Erdogan’s cabinet, the president’s face has been cropped onto each member’s body. The result is a room full of nine Erdogans-each with a different body and attire.
The meme appeared across Twitter and Facebook, but was perhaps made most popular by Kurdish filmmaker Ari Murad, whose tweet of the meme has been retweeted over 1,000 times.

More crackdowns on pro-coup forces are expected in Turkey in the coming months.
