Rebels in northern Syria released a video this week purporting to show a new DIY missile defense system for areas under their control. The short video shows fighters claiming to be from a Free Syria Army division in Idlib installing sensor wires on missiles.

It's the sort of homemade weaponry we see a lot these days in Syria. The country's five year civil war is only getting murkier under the influence of the US, Russia and Iran. Meanwhile, fighters on the ground are fighting with makeshift weapons that include everything from Daesh's (ISIS) armored car bombs to the FSA's Hell Cannon

In this week's clip, one of the fighters say the FSA plans to continue the project in other cities, but lack the funding means it's going to take a while to do it.

"Finally a dream come true," he says. "FSA was able to develop an air defense system to provide some protection to the civilians."

The clip follows gains last week by Al Qaeda's Syria wing al-Nusra and rebel factions at the Idlib province's Abu al-Duhur airport. Now factions control almost all of the province, including the capital Idlib.
