The artist, eL Seed, was chosen as one of 21 TED2015 Fellows in the worldwide competition. He's not just a graffiti artist — his work is founded on classic Arabic script, straddling a balance between the new and the old.
He's based in Doha, but his Arabic freestyle have covered murals around the world. And he's challenging the notion that artists in the Middle East have to be all about the "revolution," he says.
"Arabic script touches your soul before it reaches your eyes," eL Seed told Cool Hunting. "I paint in Arabic and I'm Tunisian. So people think that the only thing I write is about revolution. Why can't you have Arabic script in [foreign] places and accept it as a normal thing, without thinking this is a call for jihad?"
His tags have been seen in Rio de Janeiro, Paris, the UAE, Algiers and, of course, Tunisia.
Here's some of his best work (elseed-art.com):
Sharjah, UAE.
Vidigal Favela, Brazil.
Chott el-Djerid, Tunisia.
