F1 officials are following the recent violent events in the Kingdom of Bahrain with less than a month to go before the season-opening race there. The first Grand Prix of a season is scheduled for Bahrain on March 13.
For the past two days there are clashes between Shi'ite protesters and security forces. Two demonstrators reported dead. Protesters are demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman al-Khalifa.
Bahrain on Tuesday tried to defuse concerns over the issue. The safety of fans planning to visit Bahrain for next month's Formula 1 Grand Prix is a priority, Bahrain International Circuit chief executive Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa was quoted as saying. "We are focusing on delivering another successful event in the form of the 2011 Gulf Air Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix. We are monitoring the situation with authorities and will respond appropriately to any developments," he said.
