The Broadway hit musical ‘Chicago’ will be on stage at Emirates Palace from 17th to 20th May 2007, with special matinee shows on Friday and Saturday. Sponsored by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, Etihad Airways, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, AlDar, and the Mubadala Development Company, Chicago promises to bring “all the razzle dazzle” to fans in Abu Dhabi who have been eagerly anticipating the musical.
“It’s one of the biggest entertainment events of the year, and we’re proud to host yet another spectacular show at Emirates Palace,” said the luxury hotel’s general manager, Noel Massoud. “There's no denying, Chicago is one of the biggest musical triumphs of all time. It has captivated audiences and critics alike, having won more than 50 awards internationally including Tony, Grammy, Olivier and Helpman Awards, and firmly established itself in history as one of the most sizzling shows the world has ever seen.”
Chicago tells the story of fame hungry Roxie Hart who dreams of a life on the Vaudville stage, and spends her nights ‘jazzing it up’ in the bright lights of Chicago, continually hoping that she'll find her lucky break, and be shot into 1920's stardom, to able to flee her boring husband Amos.
Inspired by a true story and based on a play written in 1924, Chicago is now the longest running musical in West End theatre history. Within the past ten years, the musical has seen over 16,000 performances and has entertained over 18 million theatre lovers all over the world, joining the ranks of well-loved and enduring musicals such as Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, Cats and A Chorus Line.
“We’ve arranged for corporate packages, as well as a special arrangement for ladies in one the of the matinee shows. It is a theatre experience not to be missed” added Massoud.
Chicago will be staged from 17th to 20th May daily with evening performances at 9 pm, Sunday at 7.30 pm, and additional matinee shows on Friday and Saturday, 5pm.
