At least 17 militants were killed on Monday in airstrikes carried out by the Iraqi air force in the desert region of Iraq’s northern Nineveh's province, according to an Iraqi military source.
“Intelligence obtained by the air force revealed significant military activity in a village located in Nineveh's Baaj district [roughly 140 kilometers west of Mosul],” Air Force Captain Saman Ghalib said.
At least 17 militants were killed by the strikes and four pickup trucks destroyed, he said.
According to Ghalib, the militants had crossed into Nineveh from Syria “with the aim of staging attacks and destabilizing the region.”
