Egypt announced on Sunday the start of upcoming multinational military maneuvers on its soil, in which over 30,000 troops will participate from 12 countries.
The operation, code-named Shining Star, will included participants from the US, Jordan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Britain, France, Germany, Greece, Italy and Holland, according to Middle East News.
36 other countries will also attend the maneuvers as observers in the event, scheduled to begin off Mediterranean coast of Alexandria.
Shining Star marks the end of a four-year hiatus as a result of US commitments in Afghanistan and in Iraq. The first such exercises were launched in 1981 after Egypt and the US signed a military accord to develop Egypt's military.
