According to the EuropaPress agency, 912,000 passengers and 231,000 vehicles passed through the Algesiras Port between 15 June and August 13 2005. These figures indicate an increase of 10%. Bladi Net reports that the volume of passengers coming to the Algesiras Port has shown the highest increase in the south of the country. This rise in the number of passenger in Algesiras Port was even higher than the number of Moroccan expatriates coming to the ports in Morocco.
Europa Press agency notes that this surge mainly stems from the fact that many Algerian expatriates come to their home country to spend their summer vacation.
