Moroccan athlete Abderrahim Goumri on Friday night finished second in the men’s 5000 meters at Brussels Athletic Meetings. Goumri crossed the finish line after 12mn and 50:25 seconds just after Kenyan runner Eliod Kepchoge (12min, 50:22 seconds). Limo Benjamin, the champion of the world athletics in Helsinki 2005, ranked third, finishing the race in 12min, 55:26 seconds.
<i>Le Matin</i> reports that with his performance in Brussels, Abderrahim Goumri broke a personal record placing himself among the best long-distance athletes after the record of Brahim Lahlafi, 12mn 49:28 seconds in 2000 and the performance of Hicham Guerrouj, 12mn, 50:24 seconds, in 2003.
