abu dhabi authority for culture & heritage (adach) hosts the musical “ambassador satch”
ADACH in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority invites the general public to a musical on the life and times of great jazz legend Louis Armstrong
On 4th and 6th July 2007 the play, co-written by De Shield with James Mirrione, will be shown at Abu Dhabi’s Cultural Foundation from 07:30 pm – 10:00pm.
The curtain opens on a mostly black and white stage that functions as the background for a vibrantly colorful story. A side door opens and a parade of musicians I n tuxedos enters the audience with De Shields as Armstrong in the lead. He bobs and jives to the music –a rousing rendition of "When the Saint Go Marching In". In an instant the audience was enthralled.
Armstrong conveys his life story through De Shields, engaging the audience with his first words. De Shields exudes Armstrong's witty sparkling personality through speech and song. From time to time Armstrong plays horn in one hand, trademark handkerchief in the other.
Louis Armstrong was given the nickname "Satchmo" short for "Satchelmouth" referring to his large mouth.
ADACH is the government institution in charge of looking after, conserving and promoting the heritage and culture of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The ADACH Board is headed by H.E. Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan.
