Ahmed al-Sharaa makes first abroad trip to Saudi Arabia

ALBAWABA - Syria's "transitional" president Ahmed al-Sharaa will make his first foreign visit today, visiting Saudi Arabia.

One week ago, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud paid a trip to Syria's capital Damascus and vowed to help in lifting international sanctions imposed during Assad’s rule.

About two months after the ousting of former Syrian President Bashar Assad, the Military Operations Administration named on Jan.  29 Ahmed al-Sharaa as the transitional president in the country.

 The announcement was made during the "Conference to Declare the Victory of the Syrian Revolution" held in Damascus, and attended by leaders of the armed factions that are members of the Military Operations Department.

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that the Saudi monarch and his crown prince sent a "congratulatory cable to President Ahmed al-Shara' on the occasion of his assumption of the presidency of the Syrian Arab Republic in the transitional phase."

On Thursday, Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani arrived at Damascus International Airport in Syria and became the first Arab leader to visit Syria.
