al-falak presented with excellence award at arabcom 2007 for contribution in the field of iptv in the arab world

the leading IT and Communications solutions provider in the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) region, was presented with an excellence award at the recently held Arabcom 2007 conference in Dubai, for its contribution in the field of IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) in the Arab World. Ahmad Ashadawi, President and CEO of Al-Falak, received the award on behalf of the company in the presence of several dignitaries including Ministers of Telecom from the Arab region, representatives of telecom operators in the region and prominent industry representatives.

Commenting on the award, Ashadawi, who was also one of the speakers at the conference, said, “This award is recognition of the relentless commitment and dedication shown by the entire team at Al Falak. The success of all our solutions, especially in the IPTV domain, is a result of extensive research, our years of experience and our commitment to be at the forefront of emerging telecom technology. We are glad that we have been able to contribute towards furthering the scope of IPTV in the region, and this award will drive us to scale greater heights in the coming years.”

The IPTV technology allows the delivery of broadcast quality digital television and other services over a broadband network using internet technology. Al Falak is positioning itself as a technology leader in IPTV and has extended support to the region’s telecom operators as they adapt their networks to deliver video over IP – a process with requirements distinct from voice delivery over IP. Al Falak has signed several high-end contracts to provide IPTV technology with major telecommunications companies, including Qatar Telecom (Qtel) and Etisalat.

IPTV uptake is increasing because the technology enables point-to-point distribution and lower operational costs, while providing greater choice for subscribers. In addition, IPTV overcomes the one-way delivery stream of conventional television to offer dynamic two-way interaction that paves the way for a host of smart features to be introduced to TV viewing. IPTV allows two-way feedback between subscriber and content provider that can be tailored to individual settings.

For home users, IPTV offers multi-media entertainment services previously unseen in the region. Such as, broadcast over IP, Games, Internet, Caller ID, Video On Demand, Karaoke On Demand, Music On Demand…etc  The service also provides a parental control function that allows the parents to control what their children can watch and can ensure that they are protected from violent or unacceptable content These Interactive services open new frontiers to the home viewer.
