ALHOSN University, a leading Abu Dhabi-based university dedicated to high-quality and value-based education, has announced the winners of a design competition held as part of the Dubai leg of the Gulf Education and Training Exhibition (GETEX) 2010, the largest education fair in the Middle East and Asia, which took place from April 14 to 17, 2010 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
ALHOSN’s students were challenged to design innovative display spaces that would communicate effectively with exhibition visitors. Each entry had to include a small conference area along with prerequisite display elements. Around 25 sophomores from ALHOSN’s Interior Design and Architectural Engineering departments joined the competition. A jury composed of faculty from the Interior Design, Architectural Engineering and Urban Planning departments as well as members of the University marketing department selected the top three entries.
“GETEX guests were impressed with the quality and unique concept of the winning entries. This proves the exceptional design skills of our interior design and architectural engineering students. We intend to launch similar competitions to broaden the exposure of our students and motivate them to be more innovative and inspired in their chosen field. We would like to commend the interior design and architectural engineering departments for fully supporting the works of their students,” said Prof. Abdul Rahim Sabouni, Vice Chancellor ALHOSN University.
The winners were Bushra Shurrab (First Place); Reem Zaidan (Second Place); and Khawla Madi (Third Place), all representing ALHOSN’s Department of Architectural Engineering. Although some modifications were made to the winning design to facilitate manufacturing, the principal design elements provided by the student remained unchanged.
Currently in its 5th year of operation, ALHOSN University has emerged as one of the UAE’s leading educational service providers. It has three faculties offering 11 undergraduate and 7 graduate programs accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. ALHOSN’s academic programs are open to students of all nationalities.
