Anchor Launches Ramadan Promotion across the GCC

Delicious & Nutritious Milk Recipes & Shaker to Ensure Daily Calcium and Protein Intake during the Holy Month

In their continuous efforts to raise awareness of the importance of dairy in a daily diet, Fonterra, the world’s largest dairy exporter and producer of Anchor Milk, launched a six week Ramadan promotion. The promotion includes a free recipe booklet for delicious and nutritious milk drinks along with a shaker, with every pack of Anchor Milk  powder 2.5Kg can.

During the month of Ramadan the metabolic rate of a fasting person slows down, also, as a result of a full day fast, the body looses large amounts of fluids and nutrients. To be healthy, a balanced diet is crucial; one must consume food from the major food groups: bread and cereal, milk and dairy product, meat and bean, vegetable and fruit.

“Milk and dairy in general, are essential for all three meals during Ramadan – Iftar, Dinner and Suhoor.’ said Lila Ibellaatti, Senior Brand Manager, Anchor. “The majority of people over-eat during Ramadan and forget to replenish their bodies with fluids that contain essential nutrients. As a result of dehydration, one will feel thirst, dizziness, fatigue, and lack of concentration during the next full-day fast.”

The booklet offers approximately 15 easy-to-prepare recipes for milk drinks using Anchor Powder milk and a number of fresh fruits and sweet flavors such as dates, cinnamon, sahlab and honey. The majority of drinks can be easily prepared with the Anchor Shaker and a variety of hot and ice-cold recipes are guaranteed to satisfy any craving.

“This year Ramadan is in the middle of summer, the dehydration from fasting will be intense.” said Rola Sullivan, Marketing Director, Fonterra Brands, Middle East & Africa. “We are trying to encourage people to quench their thirst with a healthy, nutritious drink instead of resorting to canned or carbonated drinks. Water can be very filling and might give the impression that one is well hydrated, but the body requires healthy fluids, constantly in order to maintain good health and vitality.”

Here are some easy-to-prepare Anchor Milk Drink recipes:

Cooling Rose

• 3 tbsp Anchor Milk Powder
• 200 ml ice-cold water
• 200ml red (or blood) orange juice
• 2 tsp rose water
• 1 slice red (or blood) orange
• Ice cubes to serve

1. Place the milk powder, orange juice, ice water and rose water in the shaker. Shake well for at least one minute.
2. In a large glass, place three or four ice-cubes and a slice or wedge of red orange. Pour the shake over the top and serve.


Refreshing Date

• 2 tbsp Anchor Milk Powder
• 300 ml ice-cold water
• 60g dried dates
• 30g chopped walnuts
• 2 scoops vanilla ice-cream

1. Soak the dates in water for at least an hour. Drain, and remove the stones from each. Chop finely.
2. Using the shaker, mix the Anchor Milk Powder and water.
3. Place the chopped dates, walnuts, milk and ice-cream in a blender. Blend until smooth.
4. Pour into a large glass and top with a small amount of chopped walnuts.
