Spain got a 2-1 win today against Belgium at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, USA, in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The same player who came on as a substitute and scored the winning goal against Portugal, Mikel Merino, did it again today. He came on in the last minutes and secured the win for his country Spain against Belgium to take them to the semi-finals.
Match Highlights and Goals
Spain opened the scoring in the first half through Fabian Ruiz in the 30th minute. Not much time passed before Belgium tied the score through Charles De Ketelaere in the 41st minute. This was the first goal that Spain's goalkeeper Unai Simon let in since the start of the tournament.
In the second half, Spain controlled the ball more, and Belgium dropped back to defend all the time. Then, coach Luis de la Fuente decided to bring in Mikel Merino in the 86th minute. He scored the winning goal in the 88th minute and secured the win.
With this result, Spain goes through to the semi-finals to face France next Tuesday at the Dallas Stadium in the USA.
