Eighteen pilgrims who were injured in a stampede near the Grand Mosque in Mecca on Friday night were treated at the scene and none required admission to hospital.

The incident happened on Friday night as the faithful gathered in large numbers to mark the Night of Power, one of the high points of the fasting month of Ramadan.

There were nearly two million worshippers present at the Haram.

Among new security measures, Hajj pilgrims this year will have to wear an electronic safety bracelet to store their personal information, including address and medical records.

The 2015 stampede in Mina during last year's Hajj killed at least 769 people.
